Wineries & Wine Tasting

A trip to Carmel Valley wouldn’t be complete without tasting the wines that the region is famous for. Nearby Carmel Valley Village is a short five minute drive and home to over 20 tasting rooms including Bernardus Winery. The Carmel Wine Walk by-the-Sea is another great option.

Land Rover Driving School

Enjoy a day of off-road driving and instruction while experiencing, firsthand, the capabilities of a Land Rover. The Land Rover Experience Driving School in Carmel Valley offers the finest off-road driving instruction. You’ll learn how to navigate steep ascents and descents, pick the right line on side tilts and maintain vehicle control in challenging settings. This is one of only three such programs in the country.

Pool

Take a dip in the Lodge’s year-round, outdoor heated pool and hot tub open 24 hours, or relax poolside in a cushioned lounge chair or cabana — with a dramatic view of the surrounding Santa Lucia mountains. The pool bar offers a variety of cocktails, mocktails, specialty elixirs, smoothies, and poolside dining menu.

WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca

Buckle up racing fans. Built on a dry lake bed in nearby Salinas, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca hosts major racing events each year, including the U.S. Sports Car Invitational, Monterey Sports Car Championships, Monterey Historics for classic race cars, the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix and the A1 Grand Prix.

Ever wanted to take racing lessons? At Weathertech Raceway Laguna Seca, conducts high-performance driving schools, amateur and professional racing championships, and corporate entertainment schools. Since its founding, the Skip Barber Racing School has trained more motorsports winners and champions than any other organization of its kind.

Big Sur Scenic Drives

Widely considered one of the most scenic driving routes in the world, the stunning views, astonishing biodiversity and large waves of Big Sur are a mere 35-minute drive from the resort. The area offers hiking, biking, mountain climbing, birding and dining. Wildlife-spotting opportunities are plentiful, and you may catch memorable glimpses of California condors, bald eagles, whales, seals, sea lions and monarch butterflies.

Beaches

Just minutes away, Carmel beach is known for its stunning sunsets and great surf. Also, nearby the mile-long River Beach is a renowned bird sanctuary offering beautiful views of Point Lobos.

Whale Watching

No matter the time of year, humpbacks, orcas, sea lions, dolphins, blue whales, gray whales, sea turtles, otters, porpoises and other marine life are plentiful in the bay, ensure you'll leave with plenty of memories and even a photo or two.

Fishing

Sportfishing is one of the most thrilling activities for visitors to the Monterey coastline. Monterey Bay and the Carmel River offer unbeatable views and aquatic treasures such as salmon, rock cod, albacore, halibut, trout and bass. Be sure to check the California Department of Fish and Game website for information about sportfishing licenses. Several deep-sea charters on the Monterey Peninsula also supply visitors with one-day or annual sportfishing licenses.

Kayaking

Grab your sunscreen and sunglasses. Kayaking is a great way to enjoy the beauty of Monterey Bay from a different and more personal perspective. This marine sanctuary offers some of the best sea kayaking in the world. You’re likely to spot sea otters, sea lions, pelicans, and sea birds from the seat of your kayak, and you may even get lucky enough to see whales or dolphins. Our concierge staff can recommend an outfitter or a guided tour.

Water Activities

Monterey County has 99 miles of spectacular coastline ranging from dramatic cliffs to breathtaking waterfalls, rocky shores perfect for tidepooling to sandy beaches. There is something for everything. With popular surf spots such as Big Sur, Asilomar State Beach, Carmel Beach and Lover's Point, the Monterey Bay coastline is a popular, year-round surfing destination. We can point you in the direction of nearby outfitters for wetsuits, boards and lessons.

Horseback Riding

Equestrian trails and working ranches abound in Monterey County. Sign up for lessons with Marina Equestrian Center, gallop on the beach with the Monterey Bay Equestrian Center, or book a group ride through Andrew Molera State Park with Molera Horseback Tours.

One of the best ways to explore the area is by hiking or biking its beautiful trails. With many nearby state and regional parks, including Jacks Peak, Garland Ranch Regional Park, Carmel River and Point Lobos State Reserve, we can help you find a route that refreshes your soul.
